Techniques master class: colour mixing for painting

You will make a quick basic colour wheel, mix different palettes, experiment with underpainting and see how these have been applied by painters such as Bonnard and Matisse. Although there are structured exercises there will be room for a playful and experimental approach also.

Entry requirements

Water-based paint of choice in the following essential colours: reds, yellows, blues and a white. Acrylic or gouache would be most suitable for the exercises. Buy artists' quality if you can afford it or the student range of Winsor & Newton or the leading acrylic brands. Will I need to do anything in my own time?
