Sewing bee

Over the 6 weeks of this course, you will develop your sewing skills working at your own pace and level. The course will cover dressmaking techniques and techniques for completing home furnishing projects. There will also be demonstrations of sewing techniques which you can join in with if you wish. You can bring a project with you on week 1 or you can wait and speak to the tutor. There will be plenty of techniques to keep you busy during the first week.

Entry requirements

Yes, you will need to have your own materials and equipment. We have Janome sewing machines available for you to use during this course. You will need a basic sewing kit - this should include: tape measure, pins (a pin cushion would be useful), hand sewing needles, a variety of polycotton threads, tailors chalk, a few zips, sharp scissors for cutting fabric, general scissors, a stitch ripper, a ruler and pencil. Please can you bring a container to store your equipment in the classroom (a biscuit tin or recycled ice-cream container) You will need to purchase fabric for this course but please wait until you have spoken with your tutor before spending any money. Please wear suitable clothing and bring a notebook and pencil/pen. Will I need to do anything in my own time? This is not a requirement but if you choose to continue with your work between the sessions, you will get more done over the 6 weeks.
