What is the course content? Year 12: Unit 1 – Principles of Anatomy and Physiology in Sport. The structure and function of the skeletal, muscular and cardiovascular systems will be investigated and applied to a range of sporting situations. In addition, you will be aware of the different energy systems. Unit 2 – The Physiology of Fitness This unit provides an opportunity for learners to explore the body’s response to acute exercise and how the body adapts to long-term exercise participation. Unit 3 – Assessing Risk in Sport This aim of this unit is to make the learner explicitly aware of the vital nature of risk assessment and its management within the sports industry. Learners will manage environments and create their own risk assessments. Unit 7 – Fitness Testing for Sport and Exercise Learners will gain an understanding of fitness testing, carrying out all of the tests with the correct protocols. The importance of health screening and health monitoring tests will be made apparent and learners will use their own clients to conduct a full assessment. Year 13: Unit 5 – Sports Coaching The aim of this unit is to develop the learners understanding and knowledge of the roles, responsibilities, skills and techniques of a sports coach and how to apply them whilst coaching and/or leading sports sessions. Unit 11 – Sports Nutrition This unit will provide a broad understanding of the importance of nutrition and hydration to a variety of sports participants. An in depth analysis will be conducted about the preparation of elite performers to peak for competitions. Unit 17 – Psychology for Sports Performance The aim of this unit is to develop learners’ understanding of the psychological dimensions of sport and develop techniques to improve sporting performance.
