The A2 Maths (Structured Maths) course comprises of two units, both of which are Core Units, which the student will study over the course of 1 year following on from the AS course and dependant on adequate grades being achieved in the units during the first year. C3 - Methods for Advanced Mathematics (CORE 3) This is an A2 Unit which helps the students build on and develop the techniques which they learned at AS level in the previous year. In this module there is particular emphasis on calculus. The unit is assessed on two pieces of work. Examination - 1 hour 30 mins Coursework - a piece of work based on the numerical solution of equations C4 - Applications of Advanced Mathematics (CORE 4) In this unit students will develop the work they began in units C1, C2 and C3 in the previous year. This will help them understand the ways and directions in which those skills learned can be applied to real world problems. This unit is assessed on two examinations: Paper A - 1.5 hours Paper B - 1 hour Exercises from the textbook are suggestions only. These will usually be started in class and students expected to finish them at home doing independent practice where possible.
