GCE Biology is a challenging course which provides students with a broad understanding in many of the key areas of Biology. The course is fully accredited for succession into University, or to alternatively provide a range of problem solving and transferable skills for which to enter the job market. The course combines both practical and theoretical elements and requires a high degree of mathematical competence. A varied spectrum of topics from Biology are studied during the first year including Cells, Exchange & Transport; Molecules, Biodiversity, Food & Health as well as practical skills. This is then built on during the second year in which students begin to develop a deeper understanding of the core and practical skills and delve into studies of Communication, Homeostasis, energy and the Environment. GCE Biology is a typical examination based course whereby students will study for three examination elements in each year of their study Year 1 comprises: F211 - Cells, Exchange & Transport = 90 marks F212 - Molecules, Biodiversity, Food & Health = 150 marks F213 - Practical skills in Biology 1 = 60 marks Year 2 comprises: F214 - Communication, Homeostasis & Energy = 90 marks F215 - Control, Genomes & Environment = 150 marks F216 - Practical skills in Biology 2 = 60 marks
