COMPUTING, ACCESS TO HE DIPLOMA

This Access course is designed to prepare students, who have the ability, for entry in to Higher Education, if you do not already have the standard requirements needs for university entrance. The course is accredited by Open College Network (OCN) and carries nationally recognised certification. Successful completion of an Access course is recognised by most universities as a qualification for entry to Higher Education. Although there are no age limits to gain entry to this qualification, you are advised that this course is best suited to the needs of adults/mature learners. It is a full course delivered in 1 year and is assessed by assignments and examinations. You will study a range of topics designed to enhance study skills to enable you to succeed on a Higher Education programme in IT. As well as focusing on academic skills, we will also develop your communication, numeracy and presentation skills to meet the demands of an HNC/D, Foundation Degree or BSc Degree in IT.

This will include examinations, online tests, essays, assignments, projects and practical assessments. Compulsory subjects: Web Design - this unit provides an understanding of the general principles and concept of designing, constructing and managing web sites. Computer Systems - you will study the principles of operating systems and how hardware and software function together to provide a computer system. Systems Analysis - this is the study of the systems lifecycle and the way new systems will be analysed, designed and implemented. Database - you will study data and how it should be analysed and structured for designing and creating a relational database. Communications - you will develop writing and presentation skills appropriate for higher education. Mathematics - students will develop their mathematical skills. The skills acquired will be of benefit to students when progressing on to a computer-related degree.
