Tai Chi Chuan, combines deep breathing and relaxation with slow and gentle movements. Tai chi can help to reduce stress, improve balance and general mobility, and increase muscle strength in the legs. You are never too old to do tai chi as it is commonly performed as a low-impact form of exercise, which means it won't put much pressure on your bones and joints and most people should be able to do it. However, please get advice from your GP before starting tai chi if you have any health concerns or an existing health condition. Many tai chi movements can be adapted to people with a disability, including wheelchair users. The first hour of this class is suitable for beginners and will be set at a gentle pace and is primarily for health. During the final half hour of the class you will move on to more challenging Tai Chi Chuan exercises, where the emphasis is on harmonising the mind and body rather than just using muscular strength.
