We follow the AQA Specification A for English Literature. During thecourse students study and respond to a variety of texts: novels, poetryand drama, including modern and pre-20th century Literature. Coursework at AS comprises a piece of creative / transformational writing from'First Casualty' by Ben Elton and a more formal essay comparing twodrama texts,'Journey's End' by Sherriff and 'Black Adder Goes Forth' byCurtis and Elton. The exams at AS are based on a set poetry text andwider reading within the theme of World War One Literature. At A2students will be required to write an extended essay on three texts, including a Shakespeare play for their course work assignment. TheReading for Meaning exam focuses on wider reading and unpreparedextracts on the theme of Love Through the Ages. In this way the course provides a breadth of experience, which willenable students to formulate their own interpretations and opinions andcommunicate clearly their understanding and insight of differing literarytexts. It also encourages independent reading and study.
