Skills for Employment

Skills for Employment is a one year study programme at The Leighton Project, supporting young people to develop skills in getting jobs and getting confident in the world of work. The course also supports young people to gain more independence through travel training, understanding how to stay healthy and shopping. The study programme will include: English Maths ICT for work Work Skills Confidence and Communication for Work Health & Sport Independent Living skills English, Maths and IT will support students with skills needed at work such as sending emails, CV writing, applying for jobs and using money. Students will develop other work skills such as team work, communication skills, appropriate dress & hygiene, following instructions, travel skills and confidence building. Opportunities to use communication skills necessary for independence are incorporated into the curriculum through accessing local facilities, confidence building and on work placement. Work Placement There will be an individually tailored programme of work placements. Learners will undertake 2-3 placements of their choice for up to 6 weeks and participate in group volunteering opportunities. Students will keep a diary of progress and placement staff will assess acquired skills and knowledge. We have a good partnership with John Lewis, Oxford Street and they will continue to offer work experience for our students across the store.
