During the course, students will cover the following: contemporary dance technique, choreography, creating work for performance, Labanotation, context of dance, dance analysis, aspects of anatomy, nutrition and safe practice. Students that complete Y12 successfully will progress to Y13. Aims of the course - To bridge the gap between school and vocational training in dance - To develop and extend the knowledge, understanding and skills needed to participate in, and communicate through dance. - To develop an appreciation of dance heritage Y12 The new specification focuses on the development of choreography and performing within a duo/trio. Students will receive training on technique and the health and safety of the dancer. Component 1: Performance and Choreography What's assessed - Choreography and performance of a solo - Performance in a duet/trio How it's assessed - Practical exam - 80 marks - 50% of AS level Component 2: Critical Engagement What's assessed - Two areas of study - chosen from five (one compulsory area of study). - The reflection and understanding of own choreographic and performance practice. How it's assessed - Written exam: 2 hours - 80 marks - 50% of AS level
