Why should I follow this course? As the third most spoken language in the world, Spanish offers many opportunities. If you enjoy Spanish and Latin American culture, are good at languages, may want to live abroad and have better career prospects, Spanish should be one of your choices. Spanish combines well with either arts or science subjects and the AS and A2 courses are varied and enjoyable. Studying a European language widens your horizons, giving you a European perspective, and increases your employability. What will I learn? AS level Topics: leisure and lifestyles; the individual and society Speaking skills on the above topics Listening, reading, and writing What teaching and learning methods will be used? There will be whole-class teaching, small group and paired work activities. You will also take part in conferences and courses at local universities. There are likely to be theatre trips and the possibility of a visit to Spain. You will also have a timetabled lesson with the Spanish assistant in a small group to enhance your speaking skills. What can I do when I have my qualification? You can take a traditional language course at university, or a degree, which combines language modules with subjects such as business, accounting, science, European studies or tourism. Competence in Spanish can enhance your earning power considerably and is an asset in any work place. As well as export links, major British firms have partnerships with Spanish and Latin American companies and welcome graduates with language skills.
