Why should I follow this course? GCSE English is a basic requirement for nearly all walks of life. Grade C or above in GCSE English is an entry requirement for many jobs and careers and for most university and college courses. What will I learn? You will develop your ability to communicate effectively via speech and writing. You will improve your personal writing style and the accuracy of your own writing. You will read a variety of texts and learn to distinguish fact from opinion. You will develop your analytical skills and learn to appreciate and comment on writers' use of language. This course is a fast track GCSE and does not just cover work you have already done in Year 11. You will be assessed through: Two written examinations and one speaking and listening task: Reading 40% (Core) 1 hour 45 minutes. Questions will relate to one passage of approximately 700-800 words. Writing 40% (Core) 2 hours. Directed writing and composition. Speaking and Listening 20% An individual talk of 3-4 minutes on a single topic which leads into a 6-7 minute discussion with the teacher/examiner about your chosen topic. What teaching and learning methods will be used? You will receive supportive teaching leading to active learning. Many students improve on past performances and achieve grade C.
