Chemistry A Level

UPDATED 20160322 09:28:57

Chemical reactions are happening all around us and are fundamental to our survival and way of life. Studying chemistry at A level is about discovering the mechanisms of these reactions at a molecular level and watching the results happen in front of you. If you enjoy learning through experimental work and are a talented and passionate scientist, then chemistry is the course for you. It will enable you to understand more about the physical and chemical properties of materials around you and understand their interactions. Good chemists develop many skills: practical, mathematical and analytical, which are highly valued by university and employers, whatever future path you choose to take. You will study the following modules in A level chemistry Module 1: Development of practical skills in chemistry Module 2: Foundations in chemistry Module 3: Periodic table and energy Module 4: Core organic chemistry Module 5: Physical chemistry and transition elements Module 6: Organic chemistry and analysis Students will learn chemistry through a range of interactive activities. These will include teacher-led activities, discussions, web-based activities and experimental work. Practical work is a huge part of chemistry, with mathematics skills playing an important role in the understanding of chemical processes. Chemistry is a central area in science and as such it overlaps with other areas. This results in chemistry being an essential requirement for admission to university to study a range of subjects including biochemistry, chemical engineering, dentistry, medicine, veterinary science and pharmacy. In many universities it is also required for subjects such as agriculture, geology and biology
