The Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) has proved to be popular with students and teachers alike. It provides an opportunity for students to extend their abilities beyond the A-level syllabus, stand out and prepare for university or their future career. It can also be used to earn extra UCAS points. EPQ develops essential skills so the choice of topic is made by each individual student. There is also freedom to choose to produce either an essay or an artefact, such as, for example, a film, event or piece of art. Students are required, with appropriate supervision, to: 1) choose an area of interest, 2) draft a title and aims of the project for formal approval by the centre, 3) plan, research and carry out the project, 4) deliver a presentation to a specified audience, and 5) provide evidence of all stages of project development and production for assessment.
