This course will give you a thorough understanding of the principles of computing, which include programming, software development, data types and structures and hardware and software. You will also study algorithms and problem solving and these will feature in almost all the tasks you complete. During the first year of the course, you will complete all course content for the AS qualification, which is now completely separate from the A Level qualification. During your second year, you will study for the full A Level course. This will include completing topics started at AS Level and further developing some of them to a higher level, as well as studying new topics. What will I learn? Computer Systems In this unit you will learn about computer components and their uses, types of software and the different methodologies used to develop software, how data is exchanged between different systems, how data is represented and stored within different structures, different algorithms that can be applied to data structures and the laws and ethical issues around the use of computers. Algorithms and Programming In this unit you will learn what is meant by computational thinking, how computers can be used to solve problems, how programs can be written to solve problems, the use of standard algorithms and their use in describing problems. Programming Project In this unit you will learn how to produce a coded, computing solution to a real-world problem, including analysis of the problem, design of the solution, development of the solution and evaluation of the finished project.
