Physical Education is attractive to students who have a keen interest in sport and recreation, want a course that develops theoretical aspects through practical involvement, have an enquiring mind and are interested in sport throughout the world, want to know more about how the body functions and the effects of exercise, want to evaluate and improve their own sporting performance and enjoy discovering about themselves in practical situations. You will look at a wide range of different areas including factors affecting participation in physical activity and sport looking at applied anatomy and physiology and skill acquisition. The Factors affecting optimal performance in physical activity and sport including exercise physiology and biomechanics and sport, society and technology in sport. The final area is Practical performance in physical activity and sport where you will be assessed as performer or coach in the full sided version of one activity. You could choose one of a variety of additional sports-related activities. You may also be interested in the Community Sports Leaders Award (CSLA), YMCA Assistant Fitness Instructor Award or School Experience if you hope to go into teaching. When you complete the course you could choose to go directly into employment in the sport, leisure and recreation sector or you could go on to study subjects including leisure studies, recreation management or sports sciences at degree level.
