A Level Mathematics is ideal for those students who want to develop their skills and understanding gained at GCSE level. The course covers the study of the following areas: Unit 1 (taken in January) - Pure Mathematics: Indices and Surds, Co-ordinate Geometry and Graphs, Differentiation and Integration and Quadratic Theory. Unit 2 - Pure Mathematics, develops study Trigonometry, Sequences and Series, Algebra, Differentiation and Integration. In the first year, students will also study module S1 - Probability and Statistics. This includes Representation of data, Probability, Bivariate data, the Normal Distribution. In the second year, all students must take 3 units: 2 units in Pure Mathematics and a third in Decision mathematics. Mathematics is highly valued in careers including retail, banking, accountancy, engineering and other science routes and also complements studies in humanities and social sciences.
