WHAT WILL I STUDY AT A LEVEL? At the time of going to print, the Geography A2 specification for OCR is still in draft form and there may be changes before September 2016. The A Level is assessed via three exams, to be sat in summer 2018. Any AS papers sat in 2017 will NOT contribute to the A Level grade. The main topics in each section are listed below: Content Overview Assessment Overview • Landscape Systems • Earth's Life Support Systems • Geographical Skills Physical systems (unit 01) 72 marks 1 hour 45 minute written paper 24% of total A level • Changing Spaces; Making Places • Global Connections • Geographical Skills Human interactions (unit 02) 72 marks 1 hour 45 minute written paper 24% of total A level Optionality - study 2 of 5 • Climate Change • Disease Dilemmas • Exploring Oceans • Future of Food • Hazardous Earth • Geographical Skills Geographical debates (unit 03) including synoptic assessment 96 marks 2 hours 30 minute written paper 32% of total A level • Independent Investigation Investigative geography (unit 04/05) 60 marks Non-examination assessment An investigation report, (3000-4000 words), internally assessed and externally moderated. 20% of total A level Field work is an integral, compulsory part of the A2 examination. Fieldwork of at least four days throughout the A Level course is required. Additional fieldwork may be required in order to complete the Independent Investigation. Fieldwork will be assessed in the Independent Investigation, a written report.
