WHAT WILL I STUDY AT A LEVEL? The A Level is assessed via three 2-hour exams, to be sat in summer 2018. Any AS papers sat in 2017 will NOT contribute to the A Level grade. In addition to the AS content, the A Level Chemistry specification covers: Physical Chemistry: Thermodynamics, rate equations, chemical equilibria (quantitative), electrochemical cells, acids and bases. Inorganic Chemistry: Period 3 chemicals, transition elements, reactions of ions in aqueous solutions. Organic Chemistry: Optical isomerism, aldehydes, ketones, carboxylic acids, aromatic chemistry, amines, polymers, proteins, DNA, organic synthesis and NMR spectroscopy, chromatography. Practical work is assessed in the exams via investigative skills questions. However, students will receive a practical endorsement on their certificate at the end of the A Level course if they successfully complete all practicals over the two years.
