(A2 Year in Geography Students undertake two units: Unit 3: Contempory Geographical Issues Includes plate tectonics and associated hazards and contemporary conflicts and challenges (local issues such as planning debates and international conflicts such as separatism and poverty). Students will sit a 2 hour 30 minutes examination paper with a longer essay style question. Unit 4: Geographical Issue Evaluation Synoptic paper - issue evaluation and decision making where students are given a pre-release booklet in advance of the exam on a particular theme, which is then discussed and analysed in order to make decisions based on the evidence. This may include text, maps, images, statistics and it allows students to demonstrate their understanding of the connections between the different aspects of their Geography course e.g. mining, managing hazards such as volcanoes and tropical. The range of job opportunities and degree courses that Geography A Level students can move into are both wide in variety but also subject specific. Geography is a facilitating and preferred subject by the top universities. Geography opens up a range of job opportunities such as : Banking, Surveying, Environmental Health, Retail Management, Geology Geophysics, Engineering and Law.)
