The English Language A Level will appeal to students with an interest in analysing and evaluating transactional writing skills and speech. It will allow students to develop a deeper understanding of the English language and builds heavily on their study of spoken language at GCSE. AS Level Component 1: Language, Context & Identity - This unit looks at the contexts in which language is produced and received, how writers and speakers present themselves in a range of modes and the effect this has upon the creation of identity. This results in an examination worth 50% of the AS Level. Component 2: Child Language - This unit looks at the acquisition of language throughout childhood, theories of development and how to produce texts for different functions and audiences. This results in an examination worth 50% of the AS Level.
