Media Studies offers you the opportunity to acquire a sound foundation in the main conceptual approaches and debates of Media Studies. You will study the role the media plays in our lives and explore how it can shape society and our experience of it. This course is multidisciplinary and encompasses elements of Film Studies and ICT. A large part of this course is production work which will enable you to put theory into practice. You will be able to learn and develop technical skills in areas such as Photography, Desk Top Publishing, Filming and Editing by producing your own media elements. Expenses: Filming and editing equipment is provided by the department and can be booked out by students. Having your own 8GB SD card for filming allows you to retain original images. These can be obtained through the school finance department for a small fee. A2 Level MS3 – Media Investigation and Production This unit intends to develop your skills from AS and help students understand the importance of research in informing media production. The research that is carried out will be integral to the development of the production. MS4 – Text, Industry and Audience This exam focuses on different media industries. There is an emphasis on the relationship between text, audience and industry and the debates surrounding the nature of that relationship. There are three questions requiring an analysis of three industries.
