A-level Product Design focuses on developing each student’s personal ability to generate creative and academically robust responses to problems. Personal learning gained during this course will be highly transferable, relating to the majority of professional and commercial pursuits in an increasingly technological marketplace. From entrepreneurship, through to material processing and sustainability, Product Design students will produce a range of outcomes demonstrating their ability to contribute to the UK’s rapid growth area of specialist, high quality design and manufacture. During this course students will critically analyse existing products, design and develop their own abstract concepts and make tangible three dimensional pieces. Learning takes place through a balanced mix of independent research, theory lectures and supported studio based projects. This provides them with the skills, knowledge and understanding needed to have a positive impact on the manmade and natural environment. With an emphasis on independent learning this course provides an excellent, yet fun preparation to university level study.
