UPDATED 20160321 11:05:28

Mathematics is the most ancient and yet the most modern of all the disciplines. Mathematics is a living subject which is continually growing and developing. Mathematics is beautiful, fascinating and challenging. Mathematics is highly valued by employers in industry, information technology, commerce and the scientific community. Frequently considered as one of the most difficult A-levels it is rewarded with a certain status. Mathematics is often criticised as being abstract, in truth it is one of the most useful tools in developing lateral thinking and problem solving ability, definitely transferable skills. It would be hard to surpass the breadth of opportunity that lies before young people with a Mathematics qualification at A-level. A pupil achieving an A at GCSE should seriously consider doing Mathematics at least to AS level
