This is a course that is concerned with how computers work and the nature and substance of programming. Emphasising technical aspects of the discipline, students taking the subject tend to have a Mathematical or Scientific background. It is a subject that looks at how computers communicate with each other, how they store and process data and how computer programs are written. Mixing practical and theoretical work it looks at diverse areas such as database design, development of information systems and software design. This is a demanding but also a hugely rewarding subject.
