English Literature is a fabulous subject for anyone who is interested in reading, psychology, philosophy, history...just about anything, really! You will also hone your analytical skills, develop you writing skills and improve your general knowledge. What will the lessons be like? You will study a broad range of poetry, prose and drama from various periods of time, including Shakespeare and modern fiction. You will be expected to read a wide range of texts, not just those on the syllabus. Lessons will be largely discussion based and teacher led. There will be plenty of opportunity for you to develop - and voice - your opinions. You will be issued with an essential reading list when you opt for this course. How is it assessed? AS Paper 1Drama: 1hour 30 mins SO MARKS - 50% of AS Level Paper 2 Prose and Poetry: 1hour 30 mins SO MARKS - 50% of AS Level Paper 1Aspects of Tragedy 2 hours 30 minutes CLOSED BOOK - 75 marks - 40% of A-level Paper 2 Crime Writing/Social and Political Writing 3 hours - OPEN BOOK - 75 marks - 40% of A-level Non Exam Assessment Two essays of 1,250 -1,500 words, each respondin9 to a different text and linking to a different aspect of the Critical anthology. Assessed SO marks 20% of A-level assessed by 1 teacher moderated by AQA How can I go onto study further and what sort of jobs can it lead to? Higher Education/Employment - there are a vast amount of university courses and employment opportunities that would value an A Level in English Literature. Specific career opportunities relating to the subject include journalism, law and education.AS and A2 qualifications are recognised and welcomed by all universities.
