This •Aê Level was introduced in 1993 and is now one of the most popular and successful at Gateacre. It covers many aspects of language including how children learn language, how language is structured, how we recognise varieties of English, how language operates within society and how language changes over time. Pupils are also given the opportunity to practise their own writing for different audiences and purposes, and are expected to construct their own research and report on it. Assessment: Paper 1: Language, the individual and society - written exam: 2 hours 30 minutes; 100 marks; 40% of A-level What's assessed?
