GCE English Literature

UPDATED 20160318 16:24:12

The AS level in English literature builds on skills acquired from GCSE English and English literature. Students are encouraged to develop their interest and enjoyment of English literature in much greater depth and to develop their skills as independent readers and researchers. They will read widely, critically and independently, across centuries, genres and genders. Students will be required to write accurately and to produce well-argued, clearly constructed essays. More demanding objectives are introduced at A2 level involving the comparing and linking of texts. A key aspect of the course is students' willingness to undertake independent reading and study.
