the skills, knowledge and understanding to progress into Higher Education on a sport-related programme such as sport and physical education, sport science, sport coaching and development or sport and leisure management. It is also suited to those who may have an interest in a sport-related apprenticeship. The qualification is designed to be taken as part of a study programme alongside other vocational qualifications or A level subjects. To achieve the qualification students must complete between 5-6 units of work over the two year course. The course is made up of three mandatory units that students will have to complete as well as a combination of optional units that they must achieve to be awarded the qualification. Students will be assessed by both internal and external assessment. Units 1 & 3 (details below) will be assessed via a written exam which is marked by the exam board. All the other units are internally assessed by staff in school and this work is moderated by OCR. Students will be set assignment tasks with a vocational context; completion of each task will contribute to achieving a grade for each unit studied. The assessment process is ongoing, so it allows students to reflect on and improve their own performance throughout the course in much the same way as they would in the workplace
