"The Biology course is suitable for anyone who is interested in the living world. It is a context led course, in which the fundamental concepts are linked to their applications and uses. The course complements Applied Science, Chemistry, Geography and PE but can equally well be studied in isolation. Course content: In AQA Biology you will begin by looking at the subject of disease, considering how various illnesses affect the digestive system and gas exchange surfaces. You will develop the skills that will allow you to understand the symptoms of diseases and to interpret data relating to risk factors. The course continues with a module that covers the topic of variety. You will study the genetic and environmental factors that affect variety and will examine biochemical and cellular differences between organisms. Analysis of the size and metabolic rate of organisms will lead to an understanding of adaptations. Your practical and investigative skills will be assessed within the contexts of these topics. The A2 Biology course begins with some ecological work, looking at the flow of energy in ecosystems and human influence on the environment. You will also learn about the formation of new species. The work continues with consideration of nerves, hormones and homeostasis. The final topic covered is genetics."
