Functional Skills ICT enables students to develop practical computing skills preparing learners for life outside the classroom. The three strands covered are using ICT, finding and selecting information and developing presenting and communicating information. The qualification is offered by Open Awards who Bank View has a close working relationship with. Key components of the course include e-safety, emailing and using up to date software. ICT Functional Skills qualifications are designed to equip learners with the confidence and ability to use ICT systems and tools, and find, select, develop, present, and communicate information. Students are assessed by a single end of year assessment and completed at a computer. Students are able to consolidate and develop the skills learnt in ICT lessons during other sixth form lessons such as ASDAN CoPE and the new electronic process of logging and recording work for the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme, the eDofE. The skills developed in these lessons are supplemented by the opportunity to work on ipads as the sixth form has access to it's own ipad tower and for some students there is the opportunity to take part in a weekly, 1 day college ipads course. This allows students to develop ICT skills as well as become more prepared for life at college.
