"All A-level students study the AQA Art and DESIGN course. This comprises of two units at AS and a further two units at A2. Unit 1 (AS) is a portfolio unit. Unit 2 (AS) is an external set task with a 5 hour supervised time period emphasising the development of ideas. Unit 3 (A2) comprises another portfolio unit which is supported with written material of a critical and analytical nature of no more than 3000 words. Unit 4 (A2) is an externally set task culminating in a 15 hour supervised time period. Course content: Art offers a unique vehicle for communication and self-expression, encouraging the ability to observe, select and interpret with imagination, feeling and understanding. You will learn to develop ideas through sustained and focused investigations, experiment with media, materials, techniques and processes and to record your observations and insights in a variety of ways, demonstrating an ability to reflect on your work as it progresses. It is expected that students at A-level act as practising artists and are proactive in the development of their ideas on a practical and contextual level. It is equally expected that candidates take and ambitious approach to their work."
