Inspired by Maori Art

UPDATED 20160317 16:19:50

Is this the right course for me? This course is right for you if you are interested in exploring the traditional tribal designs of Maori Art through painting and drawing. Open to beginners and the more experienced. What will I learn? You will explore the imagery and designs common to the Maori tradition through painting and drawing. Starting off with simple motifs you will build up to more complex designs throughout the day, either recreating existing images or creating your own using a variety of painting and drawing media. How will I learn? Through visual aids, tutor demonstrations and practical activities. With tutor guidance you will get the chance to try out the drawing and painting techniques for yourself. Will I gain a qualification? You will not gain a formal qualification but you may request a Certificate of Attendance and Achievement from your tutor, to be given out at the end of the course. What can I do next? You may wish to join a continuation course where your skills will be enhanced and you will learn new techniques. What do I need to bring to the classes? Materials are provided but you are welcome to bring your own coloured paper and any art materials you have at home, (e.g. acrylic paints, pastels, willow charcoal, coloured pencils, 2B pencil, rubber and sharpener, A3 drawing book). Can I talk to someone about my course before I start it? It is usually possible to put you directly in touch with the tutor if a member of the Community Learning MK staff cannot answer your query.
