Machine Sewing - Beginners & Improvers

UPDATED 20160317 16:19:43

Is this the right course for me? Suitable for total beginners or those who wish to extend their skills. Come and learn some basic sewing skills so you can make items for yourself, your family and friends or for your home. What will I learn? How to use the sewing machine. Learn how to make seams, do fastenings, and neatening methods. Learn how to make a simple garment or soft furnishing for the home. Use a commercial pattern and follow the instructions. How will I learn? Mixture of samples, hands on practice, info sheets and demonstrations. Will I gain a qualification? You will not gain a formal qualification but you may receive a Certificate of Attendance and Achievement from your tutor. What can I do next? Join a future course continuing and extending your skills - there are lots of textiles ideas that could be developed! What do I need to bring to the classes? People may like to bring their own machine (serviced recently!), though machines are available at the centre. Please bring the usual sewing kit: scissors for fabric and paper, tape measure, pins, sewing needles, tailors chalk, threads appropriate for your fabric, quick unpick. Can I talk to someone about my course before I start it? It is usually possible to put you directly in touch with the tutor if a member of the Community Learning MK staff cannot answer your query.
