If you enjoy performing, composing, listening to music and exploring how different styles, genres and movements in music have developed, then A Level Music is for you. This is a challenging and highly practical course which pulls together the different strands of musical study. It is highly regarded by universities as a traditional academic A Level (for example, Cambridge University places Music in List A alongside Languages, English Literature and History as a preferred A Level subject). AS/A2 Level Music is a varied and very enjoyable course with lots of opportunity for you to explore your own musical interests in both performing and composing. You should be prepared to work hard, to have instrumental lessons (provided as part of the course) and undertake regular practice. You will develop your skills as a performer, both solo and ensemble, learning how to play idiomatically in different styles and genres. You will explore composition both with and without the use of music technology and look in detail at the techniques composers use to achieve their desired effects. You will study a range of instrumental and vocal music from medieval through to the plethora of popular styles, including reggae, jazz, rock, and music for film and television.
