This is a practical, work-related course. The qualifications in Health and Social Care relate to health, law, teaching/managerial roles in the NHS and environmental health. They offer students a choice of routes into Higher Education and employment. All courses are highly suitable for students who are interested in careers such as social work, residential care management, housing, the health service, teaching and the probation service. The course combines both academic study and work experience as part of the programme. The Level 3 BTEC Certificate is equivalent to one AS level. Students who successful complete the Certificate and wish to continue with a Health and Care qualification can progress onto the Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma in the second year. Students are required to complete a minimum of 100 hours' work training which will be carried out in a variety of care settings eg nurseries, care homes, hostels, hospices, hospitals or special needs centres.
