Religious Studies provides the opportunity to consider life's most important questions. What is the point of human life? How should we live? What happens after death? What is the influence of religion upon society? You will be able to study what different thinkers have said on these questions, as well as considering how religious themes are portrayed in the media. You will be able to engage in lively discussion and form your own judgements. The course also helps you to think critically: a crucial life skill also important in employment. Religious Studies is open both to those with any kind of religious belief and to those with none. The course allows you to look at religion in contemporary society which includes study of medical and environmental issues as well as looking at the religious response to secularisation. Students will also look at what religious belief is and what it means to the individual. The course also examines how religious themes are portrayed in the media, particularly soaps such as EastEnders and light entertainment programmes such as The Simpsons. AS Religious Studies is assessed by two modular exams at the end of Year 1.
