The Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) was established in 1980 and is sponsored by the four main accounting bodies. It seeks to meet the educational and training needs of a wide range of trainees including those employed in accounting in a variety of organisations and those aspiring to change their occupation. This course is designed for employees who have a strong level of numeracy and literacy skills. This course is divided into 6 units: FSTM Financial statements; BDGT Budgeting; FPFM Financial performance; ISYS Internal control and accounting systems; PTAX Personal tax; CRDC Credit Control. The qualification can lead to study for other professional bodies like the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants, The Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales, and The Association of Chartered Certified Accounts. All students will be required to become student members and register with the AAT.
