AS Level Sociology

UPDATED 20161012 14:24:26

Sociology is the study of society and of people and their behaviour. Sociologists conduct research to enable us to develop our understanding about the world today. We are all members of social groups (class, age, gender and ethnicity) and in Sociology we look at how belonging to different social groups affects our life chances. Not only will you learn about the society in which you live, but studying Sociology also helps you to develop skills that will prove useful for further study and future employment. During Year 12 you will study topics including Families and Households and Education as well as investigating the research methods which Sociologists use. In Year 13 you will study topics including Crime and Deviance and Global development. In addition, you will learn about Sociological theory and enhance your understanding of research methods.
