Law is a fascinating and informative subject for would-be lawyers and students wanting to study something different in the Sixth Form. At AS you will learn the difference between civil and criminal law; the terminology, courts and appeal routes. You will discover where our law comes from and how judges apply it in cases. You will be introduced to criminal law, considering crimes such as ABH and GBH. You will also be introduced to civil law, discovering the difference between an offer for sale and invitation to treat. At A2 the focus will be on criminal law with an in-depth study of homicide and the difference between murder and manslaughter. In the final unit you will learn about offences such as theft and fraud and consider the ethical issues linking Law with justice, morals and fault. Lessons are supplemented with presentations from those who work locally in the legal world – Magistrates, solicitors and barristers. The course is further enriched by visits to the Magistrates and Crown Courts.
