What will I do on this study programme? This programme of study is specifically designed to provide the knowledge and experience that you will need to either gain employment working under supervision in an early years setting or to progress to a Level 3 programme of study. Subjects include play, promoting and supporting development, working with parents, carers and fellow professionals and meeting the needs of individual children. We also spend time looking at ways in which we can promote early literacy and numeracy and this includes development of your own maths and English skills. You will spend time in work placements in early years settings which we will organise for you. You will be able to use these real life opportunities to provide some of your assessment evidence. At the end of the study programme you may be able to move straight into employment in nurseries, pre-schools and with child minders but we would hope that you will progress on to and achieve the Level 3 qualification in early years or maybe supporting teaching and learning in schools (Teaching Assistants). The study programme is made up of a number of units including the principles of early years and practice, patterns of child development, promoting children's development through play. Maths and English is a fundamental element of this study programme. Skills in Maths and English will be embedded into your academic/ vocational learning. If you do not have a grade C in Maths or English you will attend a discrete GCSE or Functional Skills class as part of your weekly timetable. How will I be assessed? We will assess your coursework which includes projects, assignments, presentations, two externally assessed units and practical activities. You'll get lots of support from your tutors to make sure that you get the most from your study programme. What options do I have after successfully completing? Early Years, Care and Education Advanced Apprenticeship, Level 3
