What do I need to get onto this apprenticeship? You will need to get a teaching assistant job in a school for work experience. This will normally be up to four days per week. You will normally need an NCFE Level 2 Teaching Assistant qualification or considerable experience as an employed Teaching Assistant/Learning Support Assistant and GCSEs in English and maths grade C or above. What will I do on this Apprenticeship? Apprenticeships are all about learning on the job - getting paid while you get qualified. You'll learn from a qualified teacher and mentor in school, and come to college up to one day a week to learn about the technical aspects of the job role and get support from your personal assessors. You will have to do the QCF Level 3 Specialist Diploma in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools, functional skills in English, maths and ICT, Personal learning and thinking skills and employment rights and responsibilities. Topics will include Contribute to the management of pupil behaviour Establish and maintain relationships with individual pupils and groups Support pupils during learning activities Review and develop your own professional practice. How will I be assessed? We will assess your practical skills and observe you at work. A work based assessor will visit you in your workplace to review your progress and make sure you are on target to get your qualifications. Most assessments will be portfolio based with the exception of Functional Skills. What options do I have after successfully completing? Progress to Work towards a range of further qualifications such as speech therapy or working with children with learning difficulties Study for a university level qualification such as a Foundation Degree Apply to be assessed for HLTA status. Job/career opportunities Ability to apply for TA/LSA posts in schools.
