Modern music after 1945: Boulez to Reich

This course will investigate art music in the second half of the twentieth century and beyond. It will take in high modernism from Boulez, electronic exploration from Stockhausen, American experimentalism from Cage, and minimalism from Reich and John Adams. We will also look at British musical trends from Britten and Tippett to Adès and Benjamin. Tutor: Edward Henderson.
