On this course we will look at the contribution to the history and growth of London made by women, from Royals to rags.  Meet week one in the Refectory of Southwark Cathedral. Learn about the historical figures which helped shape London in the past and the present. Learn about the historical landmarks and events associated with the area, visit and discuss buildings/ architecture, learn about key people and events. Trace the relationship between the area today and the past, be able to pass this knowledge and understanding onto others. A series of twelve walks looking at the growth of London, where and why it expanded when it did. To discover through a series of historical walks and archaeological walks the history and geography of London.To discover how London's suburbs grew. To explore the different characters of the inner and outer boroughs. Each walk lasts 2 hours, departing from an agreed meeting point and following a planned route that features the salient points of the session's theme. The tutor will impart information orally and will support learning with written resources available either on the day or via the College's Intranet. While the walks are not usually physically challenging, each route may include urban and/or rural roads and will take place in all weathers (except in extreme conditions, when it may be necessary to make alternative arrangements). no N/A
