This course centres on effective communication (both spoken and written), as well as giving students an insight into the culture and traditions of the German speaking countries. Students are exclusively taught by native speaker teachers. One lesson per week will take place in the Language Laboratory in order to enhance listening comprehension skills, as well as allowing students to research cultural topics. During the first year, the following broad topic areas are covered: Stereotypes, Equality and Gender, Modern World Issues, Aspects of Artistic Culture and you will study a contemporary German film. The AS exam is a free-standing qualification. Students wishing to gain the A Level in German will have to take the exam at the end of the second year. Both AS and A2 exams consist of three components: listening and reading comprehension, writing and speaking. All students will have the opportunity to participate in the annual visit to Berlin.
