The GCE in Health and Social Care has been designed to allow students to develop an understanding of the diverse and complex nature of the health and social care sector. The course allows students to build skills as well as technical knowledge. It gives them a broad base of understanding on issues such as Effective Caring, Effective Communication and varying Concepts of Health, Illness and Disease, together with the factors affecting them. Assessment at both AS and A2 involves one unit covered by a written examination and one through a work portfolio which is marked and moderated by staff'.
