This course encourages the development of independent learning, creativity and innovation. It supports links to the industrial and commercial world and gives the opportunity for design and technology to be treated as an integrated activity in which students design and make products which can be tested and evaluated. AS students will study how to analyse products and have an opportunity to develop an understanding of materials, components and systems in materials. An awareness of design in society and an understanding of industrial practice and processes is another aspect of this course. During the year a design and make project will be completed and sent to the moderator in May. There is one external exam; which incorporates areas from the main two units; materials, components and applications and design and making.
