EAL Apprenticeship in Rail Engineering Track Maintenance

The apprenticeship is at level 2 is designed to train the candidate to level of "track operative" or basic track person. The programme last for on year and the candidate if accepted is put through an intense eight- week programme of theory and practical (including rail safety training) After this they are placed into the work environment fro the rest of the programme. During the period of work based training the candidate is expected to meet with their mentor and workbased trainer at least once a month to ensure the candidate is learning and completing the training required to achieve the qualification.
