At AS Level you will sit two exam papers. Paper 1 - Education with Methods in Context, will focus on the education system in modern Britain. You will consider the role of education, differential achievement by gender, social class and ethnicity, the impact of classroom relationships and social policy. You will also study how research methods can be used to invesgate education. Paper 2 - Research Methods and Topics in Sociology, will focus on an understanding of families and households. You will consider how various sociologists have explained the function of the family, changes to role with the family, the changing nature of childhood and demographic characteriscs such as divorce and the ageing population. The full A level will examine in more detail those topics studied at AS, as well as examining a range of new topics such as crime and deviance and beliefs in society. You will sit three exam papers for A level sociology.
