This is a reformed A level for first teaching from September 2016 and final details are to be confirmed. The core physical content will cover water and carbon cycles with in depth work on river systems, aspects of climate and the interactions between physical processes and human actions. The core human content is built around the concept of place and investigates people's perceptions of place, how places change and the ways in which people seek to regenerate and rebrand places. Further optional units will be selected from a range of contemporary topics including earthquakes and volcanic activity, climate change futures, coastal landscapes, the causes and impacts of globalisation, superpowers and migration. 20% of the A level grade is based on an individual geographical enquiry which can be focused on any aspect of the course content. Fieldwork is central to this aspect of the course and there is a requirement to complete at least four days of fieldwork through the two year course.
